The museum opened in April 1983 for the purposes of “deepening the prefecture’s citizens’ understanding of local history and contributing to education, scholarship and cultural development, as well as introducing visitors to the rich history of Hyogo prefecture”. After celebrating its 20th anniversary, it was reborn as a new museum in April 2007.We invite you to visit this museum, founded on the spirit of universal design, where everyone from small children to senior citizens is welcome. Visitors may be interested in the region’s history or simply want to pass some trendy time in the museum. The museum can be comfortably used by a diverse range of visitors, as a forum for mutual support, exchange of ideas, and learning. Visitors are also welcome in the museum café.12-layered Kimono and Samurai Armor Fitting Experience “Minna-no-Ie”, on the first floor of the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of History, offers the experience of being fitted with 12-layered kimono, samurai armor, or clothing worn by children of the medieval aristocracy. You can also ride on a native Japanese horse (reconstructed model) and play with Japanese toys (beanbags, tops, menko (children’s card game), cup-and-ball game), picture-story shows and more. Experience available year-round (except on museum closing days)※ 12-layered kimono fitting available 3 times/day, at 10:30, 13:30 and 15:30.
